Racing For Success

Alexander Miloff May 02, 2014

Bicycle racers are superhumans of the sports world. Across 1000s of kilometres they race up and down steep hills, in heavy rain, blistering sun and across difficult surfaces. While we typically praise the Lance Armstrongs and Miguel Indurain’s of the world, these riders would never dream of attempting such an ambitious challenge alone.

Bicycle racers depend on each other and on large support teams in order to succeed. It isn’t all that different from a healthy classroom. HelpCue was created to improve one of the most basic aspects of succeeding in both the class and track - the ability of people to band together to help each other out.

Like students, riders group together to reduce exertion. A well formed, aerodynamically efficient group of riders, called a peloton, is able to decrease the energy of forward motion by up to 40% compared to riding alone. The same happens on HelpCue when a student asks a question and a group of classmates join together to find a solution.

Riding teams are comprised of a tremendous array of support staff. Everything from health specialists like doctors, physiotherapists and psychologists, to coaches who direct the team’s training and even soigneurs (french for “one who provides care”) who feed, clothe, and massage the riders.

Although few of us have the benefit of a masseuse in the classroom, we do receive support from multiple individuals devoted to our learning. When you post a question to HelpCue, you don’t only have your classmates to count on, your teachers are there to assist, and your question is saved so that a whole network of individuals committed to your progress can learn from it.

So, next time you’re sitting in class and have a question, try adding it to HelpCue. Amazing achievements are possible when we work together to succeed.
